Worfklow that checks if property in custom object exists

Hi there,

I have my system set up that if a new row is added in googlesheets it creates the deal in Hubspot via Zapier. I then have a workflow in Hubspot that creates a property under a custom object I built in hubspot.

I was wondering if there was a way to check to see if that property already existed in that custom object, because if that property already exists it will create many duplicates. If the property already exists then I don’t want it to create anything just associate to deal.

Example:

Custom Object: Soda Brand

Custom Property: Pepsi (this already exists)

Two new deals come through and both have Pepsi as the property, this will now create an additional two “Pepsi” properties as opposed to just linking them to the already existing Pepsi.

Hi @RHolstein4

Interesting question! What property field type is the custom property (Pepsi) and what’s the relationship between the deal object and custom object (Soda Brand) - one to one or one to many?

Although trying to understand the thinking behind having this information in a custom object as opposed on the deal as additional deal properties.

My initial thought - without additional context - would be that this information could/should live on the deal inseltead of its own custom object.

Hi @franksteiner79 thanks for the reply!

Every single deal is going to have a “Soda Brand” attached to it, so the idea behind having it be a custom object is so that we look a Pepsi, coke, etc and see all of the deals they are associated with and how much revenue they have generated. Not opposed to putting this on the deal level and not have it be a custom object.

It’s just a single line text!

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Hi @RHolstein4

From the example you describe, soda brand and the respective values would be products of a deal. You can either use HubSpot’s product library, which is available on Professional and Enterprise subscription tiers, or you create a custom deal property with the various product values.

I’d say 9 out of 10 times this information could and should live on the deal. Would you be able to share your specific use case? Feel free to send me a DM if you don’t want to share it publicly, also happy to jump on a quick informal call (you can use my meeting link to book some time).

Thanks

Frank
