We are in the process of implementing a new Wordpress blog. We will be redirecting from the old Hubspot blog to Wordpress. Will those 301 redirects stay in place if we ever stop using Hubspot as a platform? When we tested a few of the url’s they are redirecting ok, but I got questions from my team about what would happen if we cancel Hubspot subscription. My understanding is a 301 redirect is a permanent redirect that is submitted to the search engines. Am I right?
Not quite.
When you create a 301 redirect, search engines may, after a time, begin indexing the new destiation URL rather than the old source URL.
If you remove the system ‘hosting’ the redirect, however, it will stop functioning (stop forwarding people who enter or click on the old source URL) unless it is recreated on a new system (i.e. web server) that also has the old source domain directed to it at the DNS.
Hope this help.s
