The new object type “Project” can be associated to almost any other object but when it comes to the “Order” object, it is not allowed. This is necessary for a project that I am working on and interesting that it is not possible.

To establish some sort of link, you could log a note to both records and - as note body - include the record links.
Alternatively, create a custom single line text property that links to the other record. (Soon, there will likely also be lookup properties which could be used for that.)
