Why is getting 10 Spam complaints in a month terrible, and seriously impacting our email Health Score ?
We cannot control who signs up for marketing as part our ticketing journey, and we are clear they will get updates, events, and invitations for services and concerts - which we then send them.
10 Spam complaints in a months doesn’t seem that high - and people .. will be people!
Why are we being marked so firmly on this?
Hi @RWilliams699,
The email sending reputation / email health tools are primarily a tool to tell you where you stand overall: Monitor email sending reputation with the email health tool
It’s not HubSpot downgrading and impairing your ability to send emails. It’s a reflection of what has happened so far.
10 spam complaints are a strong negative signal - so HubSpot has decided to weigh it quite heavily. Again, HubSpot is not limiting you in any way because of these 10 spam complaints, it’s simply flagging it and rating it according to its own rating system.
Consider it an encouragement to review the contacts and check how you can avoid it in the future
Best regards
I think the important distinction is that 10 complaints isn’t necessarily a large absolute number, but the complaint rate is what matters. Even a relatively small number of spam complaints can be a warning sign if they’re coming from a modest-sized mailing list.
If people are automatically enrolled through a ticketing process, I’d look closely at the expectation set at signup. Make it very clear that marketing/event emails will follow, rather than relying only on the general terms.
I’d also segment transactional updates from promotional/event messages where possible. Someone who bought a ticket may expect information about that event but not necessarily ongoing marketing emails.
So I wouldn’t focus solely on getting the number below 10. I’d look at the complaint rate, which emails generate the complaints, and how subscribers were opted in. Those details should give you a much better idea of what’s affecting the Health Score.
