Hi everyone
The jist: I’m trying to connect my Hostinger inbox in HubSpot, but HubSpot only shows Exchange and won’t let me choose Other mail provider (IMAP).
My mailbox settings are:
- IMAP:
imap.hostinger.com:993 SSL
- SMTP:
smtp.hostinger.com:465 SSL
The longer version: I’m trying to connect my Hostinger email as my individual work email in HubSpot, but HubSpot is misidentifying it and only giving me the Exchange option.
My mailbox is hosted with Hostinger and uses these settings:
- IMAP:
imap.hostinger.com
- IMAP port:
993
- Security:
SSL
- SMTP:
smtp.hostinger.com
- SMTP port:
465
- Security:
SSL
I’ve already confirmed this mailbox uses IMAP/SMTP, not POP3 and not Exchange. HubSpot’s IMAP requirements appear to match these settings.
What I’ve tried:
- Started from Connect email account
- Entered the Hostinger email address
- Retried the connection flow multiple times
- Confirmed the mailbox settings directly from Hostinger
The issue is that HubSpot still only offers Exchange instead of Other mail provider (IMAP).
Has anyone seen this before, and is there a way to force HubSpot to use the correct IMAP connection type for a Hostinger mailbox?
Thanks in advance.
I would double-check whether HubSpot is using the correct email address type or account permissions, as the provider detection seems to be the issue rather than your IMAP settings. You could also try a private browser session or remove any existing connection before reconnecting. If HubSpot still forces Exchange, support may need to reset the email connection for your account.
Hi @FromDenver and welcome, it’s great to see you on the HubSpot Community!
Thanks for reaching out and thank you @MattRossi for your help!
It seems that in the connection window, HubSpot recommends Exchange but you cannot select “Other mail provider” for IMAP. Please let me know if that’s not the case.
Could you please share a screenshot of the provider-selection screen (without sensitive/confidential information) so that I can check on what’s happening?
Also, let’s check what our Top Experts have to say about this: Hi @nickdeckerdevs1 and @danmoyle do you have experience with Hostinger? Have you already seen this behavior?
In the meantime, here are some resources for more information:
Thanks so much and have a lovely day!

Welcome to the Community @FromDenver! And thank you for the tag @Berangere. I haven’t personally seen this issue, and I have note had clients use Hostinger. So if it were me, I’d probably lean into either Breeze Assistant to see if there are solutions there, or look into HubSpot’s knowledge base. From what I found there, it seems like it’s a provider-detection/routing issue in HubSpot, not evidence that your Hostinger mailbox is actually Exchange (as you already know). Your IMAP/SMTP settings are consistent with a standard Hostinger IMAP mailbox; the practical way to override the behavior is to preconfigure your sending domain’s IMAP settings in HubSpot, then retry the individual inbox connection. Here’s how HubSpot docs say to fix this:
If you’re a Super Admin or have Account Access, set up the domain’s IMAP configuration before connecting the user mailbox:
- Go to Settings.
- Navigate to Data Management → Objects.
- In the object selector, choose Activities.
- Open the Email Log & Track tab.
- Expand Exchange & IMAP Settings.
- Choose Add IMAP settings.
- Enter:
- Domain name: the portion after @ in your Hostinger address—for example, yourdomain.com
- Incoming (IMAP): imap.hostinger.com
- IMAP port: 993
- Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.hostinger.com
- SMTP port: 465
- Save with Add IMAP settings.
- Return to Settings → General → Email and retry Connect email account.
HubSpot documents this feature specifically to pre-populate the IMAP/SMTP settings when users connect individual work email through IMAP. Critically, HubSpot also says a given domain can be configured as either IMAP or Exchange, not both—so this can correct a domain that has been set up or remembered as Exchange in the portal.
Hopefully that helps. If not, I’d bug Support to see if there’s something on HubSpot’s end they can help with.
Moderator note: While this solution may not address the original poster’s specific situation, it could be helpful for other community members facing similar challenges.
Hi @FromDenver, I hope that you are well!
I wanted to follow up on this, thanks for your patience! Thanks also to @danmoyle and @MattRossi for your contributions!
I understand that you don’t see the option to choose “other email provider”. It seems that this option is not present somehow on some browsers, our team is currently looking into it as we speak.
If you haven’t done so already, in the meantime, can you please try with Google Chrome? It seems that it worked for some users.
Since Chrome seems to work and give you the “choose my provider myself” link, connect straight from there:
- Chrome > Settings > General > Email > Connect personal email
- Enter your address, click the name you need, click the choose-provider link, pick Other mail provider (IMAP)
- Enter email and password. If servers do not auto-fill, open Advanced Options and add your IMAP and SMTP servers and ports, tick Trust any certificate if needed, then Connect inbox
That should connect the inbox.
Let us know how it goes!
Thanks,
Bérangère
Hi @FromDenver and all,
Thanks for your patience! The Team has implemented a solution for this, could you please give it a try and see how it goes?
It should work now!
Thanks,
