Why do random contacts appear in my account in HubSpot Free?

I’m new to hubspot, currently using the free version.

New contacts appear in my account contacts list everyday that are a mix of letters and numbers. I’ve no idea where they’re coming from.

can anyone help?

Hi @JKermode,

When you open these contacts and scroll to the very bottom of the activity timeline in the middle, you can see how these contacts were created.

It sounds like this is a spam submission from a website form – these have been occuring in many HubSpot portals recently.

Best regards

Thanks Karsten, I have looked and you’re right. Is the solution just to remove the form, or can there be some kind of anti spam Captcha do you know?

@JKermode there are steps you can take, yes: Prevent and filter spam in form submissions

The contacts you can simply bulk delete: Delete CRM records

Thank you for your question, it helped me too!

Thank you, it looks like the contacts are coming through from MailChimp somehow?

@JKermode then you would have to investigate this within WordPress and your newsletter registration form. In any case, it does look like spam and you would have to use the techniques explained here (or the equivalent available in WordPress forms). Prevent and filter spam in form submissions
