We are importing new contacts into Hubspot. The default integration option to “Turn on sync contacts as marketing contacts” is off, but the contacts are all coming in as “Marketing Contacts”. I would like them to be “Non-Marketing”. I like to review the contacts before setting them as “Marketing”. Has anyone alse had this issue and been able to resolve it? Thanks!

Hi @JBarry2
If you pick out one of the contacts in question and view all properties, and search for “marketing contact” you should see these two properties:
The “marketing contact status source name” tells you what cause the most recent change.
If you click the “details” button for either of these you can see the history of changes on the respective property. The screenshot below shows the history for the “marketing contact status”:
Doing that should help you pin point what is causing the changes. I have two possibilities in mind:
1. The default integration option wasn’t always set to not create contacts as marketing contacts.
2. There is a workflow, bulk edit or manual change that causes these contacts to become marketing contacts.
I hope that helps.

Thank you Frank! You helped me find the smoking gun! It was indeed a workflow I created a few years ago that was updating that field.
