I think for me is conducting interviews and tracking surveys.
i am continuous learner currently mastering inbound marketing. But if i were to conduct conduct research for a buyer persona, conducting 1 on 1 customer interviews and analyzing competitor data are the most effective methods to uncover buyer challenges and build accurate personas for our marketing strategy.
Emails first then interviews
The research methods that helped me create my buyer persona include customer surveys, interviews, social media insights, website analytics, competitor research, and customer feedback. These methods help me understand my target customers’ age, location, interests, needs, challenges, buying behaviour, and preferences. By analysing this information, I can create content and marketing campaigns that are more relevant to my target audience.
I strongly recommend interviewing and surveying
For an e-commerce and direct-to-consumer apparel brand, social media listening and competitor review analysis have been game-changers. Tracking user feedback, comment sections on trending streetwear posts, and analyzing reviews of established brands helped uncover exact pain points around limited customization and color variety.
from a marketing perspective, i think it is important to conduct interview and understand the pain points and perspective of customers, but also to connect such insights from our marketing perspective with sales/customer success perspective (business perspective) - what questions does the product answer from a business buyer, what are the pain points and challenges or organization pressure - and with product owner/manager perspective (product perspective) - how can such pain points be translated into product functions/features and what is practically possible to build for the product
We built our buyer persona by talking directly to customers, reviewing feedback from our support team, and analyzing usage data. This helped us see what challenges they face daily and what solutions they value most.
In my case, I work for a humanitarian organization, so we do not sell a traditional product or service. The most useful methods have been stakeholder mapping, audience segmentation, social media insights and campaign analysis. I have learned that we need several buyer personas based on our different lines of action, such as vulnerable communities, donors, volunteers and strategic partners. Understanding each group helps us create more relevant and effective communication.
These insights are great, the biggest one is interviewing.
I have used interview and survey more often, and talking with sales team.
Interviews and questionarres have helped me!
Curating this specific buyer persona relies on a mix of quantitative market patterns, qualitative social listening, and operational e-commerce data tailored to the Saudi and GCC retail ecosystem.
Primary Research Methods
-
Social Listening & Creative Benchmarking: Analyzing top-performing short-form video ads across TikTok Creative Center, Meta Ad Library, and Snapchat Trends targeting the Saudi market. Observing real comment sections reveals exact customer pain points, regional slang, objections around delivery, and product interest.
-
Fulfillment & Payment Data Analysis: Tracking regional purchase behaviors across Cash-on-Delivery (COD) vs. prepaid channels in Saudi Arabia (such as Mada, Apple Pay, and COD fulfillment models via local partners). This data highlights checkout drop-off rates and preferred friction-free payment routes.
-
Category Trend Analysis: Identifying high-velocity products on regional sourcing platforms and cross-referencing search interest on Google Trends and social platforms within key hubs (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam).
-
Customer Journey Mapping: Analyzing conversion funnels on mobile-first storefronts to map out micro-moments—from the initial 3-second video hook to order confirmation via automated WhatsApp messaging.
Honestly, what’s helped me the most is mixing real conversations with a bit of digital detective work.
-
Talking to actual clients — quick chats or follow‑ups reveal way more about their motivations than any form ever does.
-
Social listening — watching how people express frustrations or preferences on LinkedIn, Instagram, and X gives me a clearer picture of their tone, expectations, and pain points.
-
Reviewing competitor interactions — seeing what audiences respond to (or complain about) on similar brands helps me refine my persona’s needs and behaviors.
-
Observing user behavior on websites — especially Shopify/WordPress. How people navigate, where they hesitate, and what they ignore tells me a lot about their priorities.
It’s a mix of real human insight + online behavior patterns. That combo has given me the most accurate and useful personas.
Face-to-face interactions through interviews are always my go to!
I’ve found that understanding customer needs, behaviors, and feedback is key to creating an effective buyer persona.
As a student learning about buyer personas, I think interviews, surveys, and understanding customer behavior are useful ways to learn more about customers.
Yes I would definitely consider various methods towards this and will think upon it
