Which of the five fundamental steps is most challenging for you?

implementing tracking because the systems are too confusing

I concur, that the first step of determining the appropriate interactions to track would be the biggest challenge in the first step process. I agree that you would want to make your determinations based off your SMART goals

  1. Defining the interactions you want to track
  2. Implementing tracking
  3. Analyzing and reporting how people are behaving on your website
  4. Using this information to segment your contacts
  5. Using your segmentation to nurture

For me, the hardest step is analyzing results. It’s easy to create and share content, but making sense of the data and turning it into actionable insights can be tricky. That’s why I rely on clear KPIs and simple dashboards

Having followed steps 1 to 4 is crucial in gathering information, but most importantly is, what you do with the information, i.e., step 5. The use of segmentation to nurture. This will lead you to accomplishing your goal.

Hi everyone!

For me, the most challenging part of these five fundamental steps has always been the transition between Step 3 (Analyzing data) and Step 4 (Using this information to segment contacts). The barrier I constantly faced was having raw data but struggling to quantify the actual urgency or intent of a lead to create truly actionable segments.

To overcome this, I recently built a custom B2B automation workflow (which I actually just broke down in my YouTube video portfolio!). I wanted to segment prospects not just by what they click, but by the actual health of their digital infrastructure.

Here is how I tackled the segmentation challenge:

  • I used n8n to connect the Google Places API with Google PageSpeed Insights.

  • First, the workflow segments local businesses into two main buckets: those with a website and those without.

  • For the companies with a website, the automation evaluates their technical parameters (Tech Stack, Core Web Vitals like LCP and CLS).

  • Based on how poorly or well their site performs, the system automatically calculates a Lead Score.

This completely transformed my segmentation strategy. Instead of guessing, the automation flags companies with critical web performance issues as “Urgent Contact” (since they have a measurable, immediate problem), while healthy sites are routed into a standard “Nurture” segment.

It’s a slightly different, more technical take on behavioral tracking, but it completely eliminates manual guessing!

All of the processes are important and necessary for marketing but for me, personally, I would say that step 5 or using segmentation to nurture is the most challenging because this is the step where you build trust with your customer and to identify if the whole process would end up being a lesson learned or end up on a positive note.

The most challenging step for me is implementing tracking. I understand why tracking customers behavior is important, but I fiind the technical side of setting it up more difficult because I don’t have much practical experience with it yet. I belive it will become easier with practice

As a student, I find analyzing and understanding customer behavior the most challenging. It can be difficult to know which actions are important to track and how to use that information effectively. I think practicing with real examples and learning from analytics tools can help improve this.
