When creating a subscription invoice, I can't add a tax line item to the invoice.

When creating a subscription invoice, I can’t add a tax line item to the invoice.
If I convert a quote to an invoice for one-time items, the invoice displays the tax amount as expected. Just like it does in the quote.

However, subscription invoices don’t do this and it doesn’t appear there is any way to do it. In our local country (Australia), when we bill for subscriptions, we must apply the tax amount and display this on the invoice for the customer to pay.

Any invoice we issue to customers in our local country where our business is registered, requires tax to be paid as a percent of the goods sold. If we are issuing subscription invoices, as will be the case for the majority of our B2B customers who wish to pay via bank/wire transfer, as opposed to credit card, we must list tax on the invoice. Otherwise, they are just going to pay the total amount of the invoice, which then happens to equal to the price of the product only. As tax was not added to the invoice, we will end up having to deduct tax from the cost of the product so we can pay the tax department. As we are predominately a SaaS company this is a major issue and a financial loss to our business.

Hi @LPower3 and welcome to the Community, it’s such a pleasure to have you here!
Thanks for reaching out to us!
If you haven’t done so already, I’d recommend that you participate in the Beta for “Tax by line item on quotes” (see link to the form on the comment from @VictoriaGumaer on the post I shared).
Also, here are some resources that might be of interest to you:
- Create and manage invoices
- Create and use discount codes and taxes
- Add, edit, or delete a line item from an invoice
- Use the line item editor for deals, quotes, invoices, payment links, and subscriptions
I hope this helps!
Have a great weekend!
Best,
Bérangère

Hi @LPower3 - did you ever resolve this - I have the same issue. I have managed to update 1 off invoices, but cannot make chnages to subscription invoices - I would appreciate any pointers
