What's best practice for dealing with multiple contacts in the same company?

As most know, the first contact you make with the company is almost never the person you end up working with. What is the best practice for ‘retiring’ the wrong contacts and still staying in touch with the final, correct contact for that company? I don’t want to delete the ‘incorrect’ users from the system but I also don’t want to send them marketing email or direct mail items.

Hi @PSchwegler,

Thank you for your question!

I understand that your main goal is to assign the main contact to a company. If that’s the case, I found a similar question in another forum, and I believe the suggestion provided there could be very helpful for you.

Hope this helps,

Hi @PSchwegler,

In the free CRM, the simplest way to achieve what you’re looking for would be a custom property called “Primary contact”, a single checkbox. When you realize that another contact in a company is the primary contact, simply uncheck one, then check the other.

In higher subscriptions, association labels are a more sophisticated option: Create and use association labels

If you want to make sure the now irrelevant contacts automatically get excluded from marketing emails, you can either unsubscribe them or set them to non-marketing contacts:

Best regards!
