A buyer’s journey is best understood as a structured progression from problem awareness to informed purchase decision. For example, in a SaaS context, a marketing leader first becomes aware of a performance gap—such as inefficient lead conversion—and enters the awareness stage, where they are identifying and defining the underlying problem. In the consideration stage, they evaluate different categories of solutions, such as CRM platforms, marketing automation tools, or integrated growth systems, comparing approaches based on scalability, integration, and ROI impact. Finally, in the decision stage, they select a specific vendor based on criteria such as product fit, ease of implementation, proven outcomes, and total cost of ownership. From a strategic standpoint, this journey is not linear in practice but iterative, with buyers moving back and forth between stages as they validate assumptions and reduce risk before committing to a purchase decision.

One example for me is HubSpot.

Awareness: I wanted to understand CRM, automation, and how businesses use technology to grow. I started searching for educational resources and came across HubSpot Academy.

Consideration: I explored the free courses, read more about HubSpot’s tools, and compared the learning experience with other platforms. The quality of the educational content gave me confidence in the brand.

Decision: I continued learning through HubSpot Academy, earned certifications, and became more engaged with the HubSpot ecosystem because I trusted the value it consistently provided.

This journey shows how valuable educational content can guide a buyer from discovering a problem to confidently choosing a solution.

For my travel-related business my buyer’s journey would comprise of an

Awareness strange that would involve the prospect realizing they haven’t taken any meaningful trips with their kids this year. They haven’t created any memories.

Consideration Stage would involve the prospect realizing they only have one week of vacation left that may need to be set aside for emergencies or other important events however they do have quite a few holiday weekends coming up. They could also use one or two vacations days to extend to their weekend for a quick getaway.

Decision Stage would involve the buyer researching and looking around for destinations the family would enjoy visiting that are not too far away from the home.

For my digital marketing agency, my client’s buyer’s journey would comprise of an Awareness Stage where the prospect realizes their business isn’t getting found online and they’re losing customers to competitors. Consideration Stage would involve them researching options like an in-house marketer, DIY, or hiring an agency, weighing budget against time and expertise. Decision Stage would involve comparing a few agencies on case studies and pricing before choosing the one that feels most trustworthy.

That’s a great example of the buyer’s journey. In the awareness stage, I’d recommend not relying only on online research since a ticking noise can have several causes. In the consideration stage, getting a professional inspection in addition to advice from a mechanic friend is a smart way to confirm the diagnosis. By the decision stage, I think you made the right choice by focusing on trust, experience, clear communication, and warranty rather than just the lowest price. Those factors usually lead to a better long-term experience and can save money by avoiding repeat repairs. Price is important, but quality of service and confidence in the shop often provide the best value.

Consideration: Universities understood that there shall be one unified CRM platform to cover a major part of student lifcycle with all modules covered up and SPOCs who undersrand the student lifecycle journey and CRM knowledge to help them patch the process. We acknowledge with possible solutions for seamless process

Decision : Universities started the fishing process by listing out vendors .We demonstrated the exact solutions and way that need to be executed to enhance the process.

One example could be a business that sells personalized wellness or lifestyle products.

Awareness Stage: The business notices that engagement and conversions are lower than expected, so they start looking for ways to better understand their audience.

Consideration Stage: They begin researching customer behaviors, motivations, interests, and personality traits to build more accurate buyer personas. Alongside surveys and customer data, some marketers also explore personality-based frameworks to gain additional insights into how different people make decisions.

Decision Stage: After identifying key audience segments, they create tailored messaging and offers for each group, making their marketing more relevant and effective.

For businesses that want to explore personality-driven audience insights, tools such as an ascendant calculator can provide an interesting perspective on behavioral tendencies and communication preferences. You can check an ascendant profile here: https://calcolaascendente.it

Of course, buyer personas should primarily be built using real customer research, analytics, interviews, and purchase data. However, personality-based insights can sometimes help marketers better understand how different audience segments prefer to receive information and make decisions.

One brand that I would consider myself a buyer persona for is Dollar General. My buyer’s journey usually starts when I realize I need something around the house or have run out of something, which would be the awareness stage. During the consideration stage, I think about where I can get what I need without having to go too far out of my way or spend a lot of time shopping. I may also consider the price and whether I know Dollar General normally carries the item. During the decision stage, I choose Dollar General because it is convenient, usually has what I need, and allows me to get in and out fairly quickly. Since I shop there pretty regularly, my previous positive experiences also make it easier to choose them again instead of looking for another store to go to.
