Setting marketing goals provides you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It helps you organize your time and resources so that you can make the most of your efforts. In the comments below, share a SMART goal you’re working towards this year.
Extra credit: Share with everyone the steps you’re making towards achieving this SMART goal.
To set a long-term vision and short-term motivation for the next project. If I was teaching English to international students. In order to receive more students by the end of summer. I would upgrade my profile. I would create blog or piece on what the students should expect to learn in my class. Hope for an increase of 20 new student requests. Set the new yearly goal to 10 students from 5.
That’s nice, but I think you talk far general. For example, how you would upgrade your profile, your profile in what sorts of media? You would use what type of media for absorbing new students? why an increase of 20 students? Why not 5, or 30?
If I were you, I would focus on YouTube and Instagram, for example. I would create a public account. But before that, I would follow some existing profiles working as an online tutor to see their methods, finding out drawbacks, plus points, getting feedback from reading comments or number of likes, and share. Then I would get another look at pages on Instagram. Then I would write a plan: some things I could work on as my current assets, and things I need to work on in the future when I progress in my work from getting feedbacks and an analysis. Then I could find my personas, my type of work, the outlines, setting a KPI, and other factors.
I envision my long-term goal, can be done by one month. To proritize, I assign my goals into small task that it saves time and gets productive. From time to time, I conduct interviews from professionals and influencers in different industries.
To set long-term goals, it is important for the goal to be manageable. Long term goals should be the growth of smaller and less time-consuming goals, that will eventually lead to the end result of the main goal that was wished to be accomplished. Last month I wanted to run 15 miles in one month. Instead of running 15 miles in one day (which is unrealistic for me), I set the goal of running 4 miles a week, with one week of 3 miles. This way, I was motivated, I gave myself breaks, and all my goals were realistic for my personal self.
I’m about to create a dedicated video marketing strategy for a B2B consultancy with mulitple offers and services (and multiple markets + internal stakeholder interests).
I’ll start by documenting the strategy with a complimentory roadmap (incl. content audits, persona work, SEO analysis and a repurposing plan for already existing content that we can use for video).
And then kick it into gear. By ultimo 2021, I will have:
1 documented process on why we choose to focus on video marketing, how to do video marketing and a guide for what types of video we use for what types of marketing communication purposes.
A 21/22 production and distribution plan that everyone understands and are engaged in following
1 finalized concept for a content hub with ongoing video series (or educational program for our target audience)
1 out of 4 pillar pages ready with a focus on 1 of 4 core topics that the company want to rank for incl. a series of 6 videos, complimentory blog posts + a downloadable ebook with the content repurposed.
In addition, my ambition with this strategy is to enable the company to:
Grow their current traffic to the website by 20% or more EOY (as it is new markets the focus is still very much on awareness)
End up with 50 quality MQLs and 10 SQLs to work on
100 new downloads of the ebook based on the video series
So I set my long-term goals by understanding the scope of relevance of a topic for a specific industry. If I choose, say User Experience, I would pick certain trending, relevant and informational topics around this domain over the next couple of weeks.
Once I am done selecting my subtopics to write about, I assign the time for individual tasks
Research and development - 3 days per week (Tuesday to Thursday)
Formating and editing - 2 days per week (Friday and Saturday)
Final check - 1 day a week (Sunday)
And, I would publish this piece of content on Monday.
I can review the data from the previous post on Monday as well. This helps me keep track of the previous blog posts and understand their relevance as well as the level of helpfulness it is providing to my audience. If I see the topic is not doing well, then I would be making changes in the list of subtopics to keep things relevant.
If my plan is to publish 8 topics on the UX domain, it would take me 2 months to do so. This helps me stay on task, as well as trackback to the topic that is doing well, helping me to branch out or dig deeper into the topics.
My goal next time is co-creating a page on Facebook to make vlog daily and TikTok channel to follow hot trend. Before the end of this year, I hope my page reach to 5000 followers
I have started a Digital Marketing Agency and working towards it. Focusing on Real estate, E-commerce and other start-ups. I started from basic to understand every topic I learn and to ensure better results. I focus on major topics and understand the reason for implementing them.
Few Areas which I consider the most.
Planning- Documented planning will help us in a long term, which is basic in my point.
Content-Interesting and sensible topics with a clear vision.
Facebook Ads- Understanding the need and based on the requirement working towards organic and paid Ads. Focusing the loop for better results.
Instagram- Groundwork and case studies will help us, also includes Organic and paid Ads
LinkedIn- According to my knowledge this is a primary platform to connect and focus, we can narrow down the specific Audience with the best results.
SEO & SEM- Vast area to learn and understand, yet this will help any business and I believe this a basic metric one should consider.
My view- When we start from basic and utilize the required tools efficiently with proper planning and documentation we can expect a good result.
Note:- I am just a learner please feel to correct and share your feedback.
If I was teaching an online baking class to local and international students. In order to get more students before the year runs out. I would upgrade my baking skills by paying for advanced classes. I would writes out new recipes & develop old ones. I would create a piece informing the students on the things they should expect to learn in my class, making sure to let them know I went for an advanced class recently and I would be teaching the latest recipes. Then I hope for an increase of about 30% of the former class size
I am setting my short term goals on a small scale so that I can build from there since this is just the beginning of the business. After finishing my course I will sell to 10 people by the end of August, then doubling every month until the end of the year. I will find 3 new platforms to advertise on top of my current ones to include an email list. Production goals are to film 1 live workout a month that promotes my mission.
As a marketing for a non-profit art gallery, the marketing goals are clear in the sense that we need more (defined) footfalls at the physical gallery, significantly more unique visits to the website, many more followers on social media and a strong word of mouth. How to do this in the limited time available is the big question.
