What Top Level Domains are Valid for Emails

Hi,

Is there a list of valid Top Level Domains list for email accounts?

Having hunted around for a while, I’ve come across the list of blocked free email domains: Domains blocked from form submissions (hubspot.com)

And this page as well (Forms | Frequently Asked Questions (hubspot.com)) which states:

Formatting: the text that the user entered must look like an email address, and the top-level domain must appear in the public suffix list.

I’ve followed the link to the public suffix list and tried testing a few of the TLD’s and finding that the information provided is not correct, as most of the ones I’ve tested don’t work (I’m aware the list is updated regularly, so not expecting perfection, but only 1 has worked for me so far)

Is this a bug, or is the list provided not correct, or am I miss-interpretting the list?

Is there an actual hubspot list to pull this information from?

Hi, Jeremy,

I think what might be happening is that the examples you’re testing with can be considered misspelled variations of “mail”, which seems to be a trigger as a free provider.

I’d be interested to see if anyone has a confirmation of my hypothesis, or an explanation of what else might be happening.

That was just one example, if I’d used “firstname.surname@bookstore.ac” it would fail validation as well. It’s the ac TLD which is causing the failure, but the TLD is a “valid” top level domain due to the list provided in the Frequently Asked Questions link.

It seems the 2 char country based TLD’s (e.g. .us, .uk, .jp, .it, etc) are likely to work on that list, and some of the 3 char TLD’s (e.g. .com and .biz), but more than 3 characters seems to fail (e.g. .apple). There are also examples of 2 char and 3 char TLD’s which fail as well (e.g. .ba, .ac, .pf)

**Made a correction based on feedback from my team - apparently williams.ac was accepted, but bookstore.ac is not and bookstore is not on the list of “free domains” which are blocked
