What officially reverses a graymail contact?

I have been digging through the Knowledge Base and cannot seem to be able to find the answer to one basic question: What actually reverses a contact’s status in the ‘Don’t send to unengaged contacts’ list - to being able to be an engaged contact again?
I am planning out a re-engagement campaign, and cannot seem to narrow in on what action a contact needs to take in order to once again be considered as ‘engaged’ and able to receive emails?
Is it if they open an email? Is it if they update their subscription preferences? Or?
Thanks in advance for anything you can offer and suggest!

Hi @StephV,

A graymail contact is a contact that meets these criteria:

  • Never opened a marketing email from you and hasn’t opened the last 11 emails you’ve sent them.
  • Previously opened a marketing email from you but haven’t opened the last 16 emails you’ve sent them.

This is based on the Sends since last engagement property which is reset when contact opens or clicks an email: “Sends since last engagement: the number of marketing emails that have been sent since the last engagement, specifically email open or link click.”

Best regards!

So, just to confirm; if a recipient opens an email (say as part of an
attempt to encourage them to re-engage) then they would automatically be
removed from the graymail list?

Correct, @StephV!
