Show Up with a Perspective: How to Earn Attention Before You Ever Make a Pitch

This week is about what happens when you get in front of prospects: showing up with enough context and perspective to earn their attention fast, and making sure every stakeholder in the account hears something relevant to them specifically.

Play 3: Sell with Context, Not Pitches

Buyers trust AI search more than sales reps right now. According to G2’s 2025 Buyer Behaviour Report, it’s not even close. Buyers rely on AI-powered research about twice as much as rep-led conversations.

You can’t out-pitch that. But you can out-prepare it. When a rep walks into a first meeting knowing more about the prospect’s situation than the prospect expects, discovery stops feeling like a sales call and starts feeling like a consultation. Give them that “Wow, I’m shocked they knew that about us” feeling. That moment convinces your buyers that you’re a partner they can trust to solve for them.

Quick win 1: Let your CRM update itself

If your CRM data isn’t current, your reps are prepping with the wrong information. HubSpot’s Data Enrichment fixes that automatically, and it’s included free with any HubSpot seat. It runs natively on your CRM records without any integrations or data mapping, and it has a 95% match rate on company enrichment, so the data your reps are working from is actually accurate.

  • Enable automatic enrichment for every new record. When a new contact or company is added, HubSpot pulls in data including company size, industry, revenue, and tech stack automatically.
  • Turn on conversational enrichment. HubSpot reads your email threads logged in the portal and updates contact records with relevant data it finds in the conversation. No manual entry.
  • Set up automated lead scoring based on enriched fields like company revenue, headcount, and job title to surface high priority leads for immediate follow up.

The result: reps start every conversation with a complete, current picture of who they’re talking to, without spending 20 minutes on LinkedIn first.

Quick win 2: Build a research engine with Data Agent

Data Agent (Sales Hub Professional and above) lets you create smart properties, which are custom fields that Data Agent automatically fills in by researching the web alongside your CRM data. Think of it as a research assistant that quietly fills in an intelligence overview for every account.

High-value Smart Properties to start with:

  • Top 3 strategic priorities for 2026 (based on the company’s web presence)
  • Current CRM in use (identified from job postings or site data)
  • Recent funding rounds or acquisitions in the last 6 months
  • Key executive leading digital transformation or operations initiatives

Once your Smart Properties are set up, enable Auto-fill so Data Agent populates them automatically when new records are created. (10 HubSpot Credits per fill.) Then create a saved Company view with those Smart Properties as columns and your team has a live, ranked prospect list based on the exact criteria that matter to you.

What this changes about the first meeting

A rep prepped with this setup knows the company just closed a funding round, that the VP of Operations joined 8 months ago and is likely still evaluating their tech stack, and that they’ve posted three jobs in the last month looking for HubSpot experience.

That’s not a pitch. That’s a conversation. And it’s the kind of preparation that builds trust in the first five minutes.

Getting started with Play 3

  • Enable automatic data enrichment for new records in HubSpot settings.
  • Turn on conversational enrichment and check back after a week to see what it’s pulled in.
  • Create 3-5 Smart Properties that would make pre-call prep meaningfully better for your reps.
  • Build a saved prospecting view with those Smart Properties as columns.

Play 4: Scale Your Prospecting Presence

Most deals don’t fail because of the champion. They fail because someone else in the room said no.

Modern B2B buying involves 6 to 10 stakeholders. Winning a deal means getting enough of those people aligned, not just the one contact you’ve been nurturing for weeks. Play 4 is about making sure every decision-maker in an account hears a message that’s relevant to them, without your reps doing 10x the work.

Quick win 1: Build selling profiles in Prospecting Agent

HubSpot’s Prospecting Agent (Sales Hub Professional and above) researches prospects and drafts personalized outreach at scale. The key to making it effective is setting it up with distinct selling profiles, one for each type of audience you’re reaching.

A useful starting set:

  • “Technical Deep-Dive” for IT leads who need to understand integration, security, and implementation.
  • “Strategic Value” for the C-Suite, focused on business outcomes and ROI.
  • “Competitive Migration” for accounts currently on Salesforce, Dynamics, or Zoho.
  • “Follow-Up Emails” for warm inbound leads who’ve already shown interest.

In Prospecting Agent settings, create a profile for each persona and configure the agent’s voice, research sources, and set a call-to-action. Add custom instructions as guardrails for how the agent handles specific scenarios or objections your team commonly encounters. The agent will then write a CFO email that’s fundamentally different from a developer email, automatically.

Quick win 2: Create a surround sound strategy with Target Accounts

  • Mark your highest priority companies as Target Accounts in HubSpot and use ICP tiers to rank them by fit.
  • For each target account, map the buying group. Who are all the associated contacts, and which ones have been engaged vs. not?
  • Enroll each buying group member into the selling profile that matches their role. (100 HubSpot Credits per contact.) The CFO gets Strategic Value. The IT lead gets Technical Deep-Dive. Everyone hears a version of your message tailored to what they actually care about.

Quick win 3: Automate lower priority accounts

For accounts that might not need hands-on attention from a rep, let the agent run more autonomously. It’s also a great way to re-engage lost leads or deals that went cold without your reps having to manually revisit them.

  • Create a dynamic segment for buying group members associated with lower tier target accounts.
  • Set Prospecting Agent to auto-enroll new contacts added to that segment. (100 HubSpot Credits per contact.)
  • Enable adaptive outreach so the agent waits for a meaningful signal (a website visit, an intent spike) before drafting the first email. You get automated scale without irrelevant cold messages.

Getting started with Play 4

  • Set up 2-3 initial selling profiles in Prospecting Agent based on your most common buyer personas.
  • Identify your top 10 target accounts and map the buying group for each one.
  • Enroll buying group members into their matching selling profile.
  • Create a dynamic segment for lower-tier accounts and set up auto-enrollment with adaptive outreach enabled.

That’s a Wrap

Here’s the thread running through all four plays:

  • Play 1: Give AI the admin work so reps have more time to focus on the conversations that matter.
  • Play 2: Use intent signals to reach out when buyers are actively looking, so your outreach feels helpful instead of random.
  • Play 3: Show up to every conversation knowing more about the prospect’s situation than they expect.
  • Play 4: Make sure every stakeholder in the account hears a perspective that’s relevant to them.

None of these plays require new tools. If you’re on HubSpot, you already have everything here. The only thing left is actually running the plays.

Start with one. Get it running. Layer in the next. Soon, your reps will be showing up to more conversations with better context, reaching buyers at the right moment, and standing out in a way that actually gets a response.

Which play are you trying first? Drop a comment below and let us know. We’d love to hear what you experiment with and what you find.

Right! Now according to your recent discussions, buyers now trust AI research more than sales reps, and preparation matters more than pitching .

In your experience, has deep research and context actually improved conversion rates in outreach campaigns?

Or do you think traditional outreach (like cold emails, guest posting, etc.) still works better?”

Hi @chrismcdonald,

We don’t believe cold outreach is dead. In fact, you can set the Prospecting Agent to run on a “Scheduled” cadence for a more traditional approach.

The key difference is that the agent doesn’t just blast out templates; it carries out deep research on every contact before writing a single word. This ensures the messaging is genuinely personalized and relevant, rather than just swapping out a simple personalization token like you’d do with standard sequences. It’s actual personalization at scale.

The result is that the outreach feels more human and less like a bot (more than some sequences even). While we can’t share any official data just yet, we’re seeing a meaningful lift in response rates and meeting booking rates with the customer’s we’re tracking. Their feedback has been pretty consistent: the quality of the research and the way it weaves context into the messaging is a game-changer.
Keep in mind that the agent handles all that heavy lifting—the research, the writing, and the follow-ups—on behalf of your reps. It’s essentially delivering higher-quality results with a fraction of the manual effort.
