# Use forms to update specific custom object records

While we are able to use custom object properties within forms, there seems to be a lot of missing functionality at the custom object level. While we can use custom object forms to create new custom object records, it is not possible to use those forms to _update_ a specific custom object record.

We have a custom object which is not associated to any other objects, and is used entirely for internal purposes. We have created several forms, which we would like to send out to specific HubSpot _users_ so that they can provide feedback on how their week is going, goals, etc.

We have created the forms so that they only contain properties from the custom object, including an Email field for the user’s email. That same Email field is required in order to create a new custom object record.

I had expected that when submitting the forms, the form submission would show up in the relevant custom object record as a form submission. Instead, the form submission is creating a new custom object record for each form submission, even if there is already a custom object for that email address.

The ability to update a specific custom object record would be valuable for a number of different use cases outside of my own, as shown in [this community post,](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Use-a-form-to-populate-custom-object-data/idi-p/366405) which appears to have touched on a small piece of this idea with the implementation of custom object form fields. Unfortunately, there have been no updates or responses from HubSpot related to updating a specific custom object record.
