Updating Company records

Before I start going through trial and error…

What is the best way to update company records?

We imported about 20,000 Company records about a year ago and most did not have the domain information.

Now we have access to a tool that has given us the domains of these companies and we’d like to updte them without disturbing past history and notes, etc.

Ideas??

Hi @spaulsen,

It’s crucial that whatever you do, you do not import this new information without also mapping the company Record ID during import. If you do not do that, HubSpot will simply create 20k duplicates.

In other words, if your enriched file contains the Record ID column, map it during import and you’re golden. HubSpot will update the records in their place.

If your current file does not contain the Record ID, export your companies from HubSpot first, you your preferred Excel or Google Sheets method to map the export file and your enriched file and then proceed by importing and mapping the Record ID.

Also, with that large of a volume, try a slice of the import first, 10 company records maybe. If something goes wrong, it’s much easier to clean up than cleaning up 20k records.

Best regards!

Many thanks… I will give this the old college try.

Funny thing Karsten… HubSpot does not recognize the Record ID field on the new spreadsheet that was created with the updated information. At first I thought it was because I was using XLOOKUP formula to look up the Record ID in the spreadsheet that was downloaded from HubSpot. So I cut and pasted the data into a new spreadsheet using the values only. HubSpot still didn’t recognize Record ID. It said there was an error in all the Record IDs I was trying to upload.

Hi @spaulsen,

Which error message exactly is HubSpot returning?

Best regards
