I know HubSpot is not currently setup to revert a contact’s lifecycle stage via a workflow but doesn’t that go against the idea of the flywheel? I know we can manually change the lifecycle stage but we need to automate this.

We are an enterprise SaaS B2B company and the majority of our prospects go through a couple of deal cycles before they become a customer. Being able to automatically set contacts from “opportunity” back to “lead” after a deal has gone to closed-lost would ensure those contacts get back into marketing campaigns.

I am wondering whether you are open to use API to achieve this, according to contact api ([https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/contacts/update\_contact),](https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/contacts/update_contact),) you can reset lifecycle stage by making it empty string first, then assign new value.
