Upcoming Sunset: Legacy CTAs

Hey @KMcKenz - thanks for your patience!
The pop-ups use targeting to decide where they will show up. You’ll need to add the HubSpot tracking code to your site and target it in your pop-up using the URL/query parameter filter.

Bingo. Got it. Thank you, @hseligson !

@hseligson I am noticing a lot of comments that have not been addressed. Are there any updates to these questions? Thank you in advance!

Hi @MNault - Thank you for your concern! I have addressed all the questions and shared any comments and concerns with our product group. If there is anything specific that I may have missed, please do let me know!

@MNault - Hi again! I received some feedback from our engineering lead and confirmed the following:

- No existing CTAs will break ( links included)

- We are working on a migration flow for legacy CTAs to allow them to easily migrate any legacy CTAs to the new tool too - images included!
Please let me know if this information helps for now!

Thank you, yes it does! So image CTAs will NOT be turned into buttons - great! I look forward to migrating them to the new tool.

I noticed that the new tool doesn’t have the ability to add classes to simple buttons (as was possible in the legacy version). Is this an oversight, or is this not going to be added? Also, will classes be migrated over?

I noticed that too! That is a feature that really needs to be included IMO. @hseligson do you know what is planned for that?

I just got it tested, and realized that they have it in an iframe, meaning that even if they did add a class, it wouldn’t do anything.
This means adding custom icons to buttons or any sort of custom button that isn’t a square box with or without rounded corners is impossible, and having custom animations on hover are completely out the window. It will also make having consistancy across the site a much more difficult task.

@LastRose - Great feedback! We are currently working on an HTML version similar to the legacy button. It won’t be in an iframe and will support the use cases the legacy CTA did.

Hey,

I have a question regarding the “easy way for customers to copy their legacy CTAs into new CTAs” process. How is this going to look like?

1. Are we going to be able to bulk copy our CTA’s to the new versions?

2. What will happen to the CTA’s that had custom CSS code - Are they going to be copied without any additional work as well?
3. How is the process going to look like? Will it be a multi-step process? How much time-consuming?

Thank you in advance!

Marko

Hey Marko - Thank you for submitting your questions. Please find our responses to each listed question below.

I have a question regarding the “easy way for customers to copy their legacy CTAs into new CTAs” process. How is this going to look like?

1. Are we going to be able to bulk copy our CTA’s to the new versions?

We’re going to start with selecting a single one, and will consider a bulk UI

2. What will happen to the CTA’s that had custom CSS code - Are they going to be copied without any additional work as well?

Yes - there will be an option to choose migrating into the HTML version that we are working on, this will copy across all custom CSS/classes and HTML.

3. How is the process going to look like? Will it be a multi-step process? How much time-consuming?

No - the process should be very simple. Something like

  • Choose “Clone to new CTA” in dashboard
  • Choose the new CTA to clone to, or create a new CTA from the old one that will be used
  • Confirm existing dependencies are ok to migrate to new CTA
  • Start migration
  • The CTA will then show a migrating and then migrated status while it is in the process. During this time we will manage updates to lists, workflows that use CTAs.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

@hseligson Thank you so much for the response. It makes things clear and we can start with the planning to switch.

When will the functionality to change button width be added? We’re running into issues with the extremely limited character count truncating 3-word phrases to two lines. It looks awful in our email templates and something we utilize quite a bit in the now-legacy application.

@MusicMarketer78 hello! Thank you for informing us about the button module. I’ll follow up via direct message to gather more information and to help resolve the issue.

Hi - The legacy CTAs have the option to make the click action a phone number. I am not seeing that on the new ones. Is that feature not being added to the new CTAs?

Hi @NCiprich -

Thank you for your question! You are correct, I am also unable to find a similar type of function within the beta. However, I will contact our internal team to determine whether there is an alternative approach available or if this feature is yet to be implemented. Once I get a response, I will share it with you as soon as possible.

Hi @NCiprich - I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I received feedback regarding your question referencing the click action for a phone number. I was advised that this functionality is available. You would need to select a URL and input the phone number. We have a backlog item to add the telephone number as a specific option, too - but starting to enter a number should result in the correct extensions being added when the URL is selected. I hope this helps!

Hi! Thank you for the comprehensive info here:grinning_face: I can’t see anything about how this will affect lead scoring with the HubSpot Lead Score property. CTA legacy is in the filtering options but not the new beta CTA. What will happen once the new changes take affect? Will the new CTA be available in the property?

Hi @CarliWilken - I appreciate your comment and question. We have identified a gap between the old and new tool regarding the legacy CTA for lead scoring. I want to assure you that any existing uses of this CTA will not be affected; however, we need to add it to the new tool. I will keep you updated on the progress and provide more information in this thread as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
