Understand the process of sales email and limitations

Hi,

We recently started using Hubspot and we bought Customer Starter Platform license to utilize all the sales/marketing/operations features. Basically our Sales Team will export the prospect data from Apollo.io and import in Hubspot contact, send out bulk emails as part of cold outreach process. Recently I have noticed that my card has been charged for increase in Marketing contact limits multiple times.

So just trying to understand - what is the difference between Marketing and non-marketing contacts. With the version of hubspot we purchased how can we allow our Sales team to send out cold outreach emails in bulk for non-marketing contact?

I just don’t want to get charged for every import we do from Apollo.io. Main reason we choose Hubspot is for cold emails(with tracking) and cold calling using the OOTB Dialer. Could someone help me with this to understand better and what is the next best action?

Thanks

Vetri

Hi @VetriManoharan,

You might want to check Settings → Integrations → Marketing contacts, and verify that certain integrations aren’t automatically setting marketing contact status for all incoming contacts.

The way marketing contact billing works is that you’ll immediately be charged if you exceed your current limit, see here:

Marketing contact status is not required for sales emails, only marketing emails.

Have a look and let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

Thanks for the swift response @karstenkoehler Just checking is it possible to send out emails in bulk for cold outreach if the contacts are not marked as “Marketing contacts”? If true, how to achieve this? Any suggestions would help!

@VetriManoharan when you say cold outreach, are you referring to personal, one-to-one emails or to marketing emails?

Marketing emails require marketing contact status.

Sales emails can only be sent in bulk using sequences: Enroll contacts in a sequence

Sequence allow bulk enrollment up to 50 contacts from an index page.
