Unable to delete 3 static segments because of dead asset references

Hi HubSpot team,

I’m running into what looks like a backend issue with three segments in my portal that I can’t delete.

These are the affected segment names:

  • TRASH
  • TRASH - Unable to delete
  • TRASH - Unable to delete1

What’s happening

When I try to delete these segments, HubSpot says they are attached to another asset. However, when I click the referenced asset link, it takes me to an error page because the asset appears to no longer exist.

What I’ve already confirmed

I checked the dependencies on these segments and found no current tracked assets depending on them. I also tried editing and re-saving the segments before deleting them again, but that did not resolve it.

I then attempted deletion again, and all three still failed.

Additional detail

All three are now static segments, and one of them appears to have a broken/unsupported saved filter state, which makes me think these may be orphaned or stuck segment records rather than genuinely in-use assets.

What I’m asking

Has anyone from HubSpot seen this before, and is there a way for the HubSpot team to remove or repair these stuck segments on the backend?

This seems like something only HubSpot staff would be able to resolve, since the UI still blocks deletion even though the referenced asset link is dead and there are no current tracked dependencies.

Thanks in advance.

Hey @W3,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

According to this knowledge base article, there are two reasons why you may be unable to delete a segment:

  • The segment is used in a HubSpot tool; or
  • the segment is a default segment.

Can you please follow the steps in this knowledge base article to troubleshoot deleting the segments and confirm whether or not you were able to delete them as-expected? If not, I’m happy to collaborate on troubleshooting the issue with you!

Hi Shane, thanks for the assist. On the details screen of each segment that is unable to be deleted, it says it is being used in a scheduled email that apparently no longer exists. When I click on the reference link of the email title it just takes me to an error page that says “this email could not be found.”

Hey @W3,

Thanks for confirming.

I’ve escalated this internally to see how we might be able to assist with the deletion of these segments. I’ll be sure to report back as soon as I hear from the team.

We appreciate your ongoing patience!
