Hi All,

So we currently have an issue where we have two email addresses on a form, and Hubspot is automatically selecting the second email address in our form as the de-duplication criteria. For context the first email is the lead email we want, and the second email is the partners referral email (the partner will be writing the form).

I have read that it is the first field that is inserted by the user, so we assume they are autofilling this second field meaning that it then becomes the de-duplication email address when we want the first one to be, as now we have leads with multiple emails attached to it.

Anyone have any ideas on how to stop a field being filled in before another? Doesn’t seem as though progressive fields work as all we want is that the first email field is entered and then the second only after the first one.

Hi @DCrinnion,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community!
I understand that you have 2 email address fields on a form and you’d like to have a deduplication on the 1st email address field only, is that correct?
- Are you using a HubSpot form? Is it a regular form or a popup form?
- Is the 1st email field, the native default email field (primary email address) provided by HubSpot? Or is it a custom email property?
Regarding this question “Anyone have any ideas on how to stop a field being filled in before another?”, so you are using progressive fields?
I’d like to invite some of our top experts to this conversation: Hi @danmoyle, @deepikaverma and @mangelet do you have tips to help @DCrinnion, please?

**Also, if anybody else has anything to add and/or share, please feel free to join in the conversation 🙂**

Thank you and have a great Friday!
Best,
Bérangère

Hey [@BérangèreL](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/230185) !
Yes thank you so much that is the exact issue we are having! Our partners are filling out this form and they must be autofilling their email in (on the second email field in the form) meaning that is becoming the de-duplication email, this now means that we are getting a record with multiple emails from all the different leads emails overwriting eachother (first email field).

In answer to your first question it is a **Regular Form.**
With your Second question, the first email field is the Native Hubspot email field.
We aren’t using progressive fields at the moment, as we have only just become aware of this issue however we are trying to look in to anyway we can make that first field the de-deplication no matter what, as it is an inconsistent issue. It works most of the time but it seems as though when the partner fills in the second email field first it overwrites.

Best Regards and Thank you so much!

Hey @DCrinnion strange, I’m not sure how you even managed to get the email field on the form twice! The HubSpot form editor only allows a field/property to be used once, so the email should be greyed out when you add it in once.

The workaround for this would be to only use the email field once for the partner email. Then use a custom property for the contact property. You can then use a [workflow to create a new contact](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/workflows/choose-your-workflow-actions#create-record) from that custom email property to use this as the main email for that new contact.
At the moment there’s no way to create two of the same records from a single HubSpot form submission.

Hey Tom,

Thank you for your feedback, I am not sure if I have miscommunicated here, but we have the normal hubspot email field (the first field) and a custom email property field below. Although I am new to the company and hubspot adminstrator world so not entirely sure validation the custom field has on it (screenshot). So may I ask are you suggesting on the form we make the email field attached to the partner email question and vice versa with the other email question? Then create a workflow for everytime there is a new email on the custom property?

Best Regards,

Hey @DCrinnion I’d change the standard email field to be the partner email and then the custom one to capture the lead/contact email that will be used to create a workflow.

@DCrinnion In my experience, the situation you’re describing isn’t something HubSpot in its standard format is built for. It’s a contact (or customer) relationship management system, not a good parter relationship management (PRM) tool.

To make it work well, you need custom objects and same-object associations (which is still in beta) and some workflows as @TomM2 mentioned.

With that said, it looks like you may have an answer, since HubSpot forms take into account the IP address of the person filling out the form (the partner).

For what it’s worth, we have a solution for this so you wouldn’t have to build your own custom objects, dashboards, associations, etc. If you’re interested, you can definitely explore [RocketPRM here](https://rocketprm.com/).

EDIT TO ADD: I’m wondering if the first email on the form is the standard “email” property, and the second is a custom property. Because that, plus having the form setting “always create contact for new email address” turned off (as it is by default because of the IP address situation) would create the behavior you’re describing, in my experience.

Make sure that email you’re asking for first (which should be the new lead) is your standard email property, and that may solve it. It won’t create a new contact based on the second email though.

Hi @DCrinnion

We have done something similar and have not experienced any issues. I suggest checking your form settings and turning on the “Always create contact for a new email address” option if it is not already enabled. You should also turn off the “Pre-populate contact fields with known values” option. I guess your form setting is interfering with your email fields.

I’d suggest creating a custom email field for your partners. And ask them to properly fill up the form.

Hi @DCrinnion, @TomM2,

Wanted to let you know that we’ve built a dedicated solution that solves for this issue.

You can build partner-facing forms and map any field to CRM properties (contacts, companies, deals, custom fields, etc.). It’s all no-code btw. The Introw form automations allow for multiple e-mails to be mapped.

 ![Schermafbeelding 2026-02-17 om 10.45.03 1.png](https://d2qpr2jzcazej7.cloudfront.net/original/2X/9/9bdcb22848e037cdce90b3df66b43bede87666a8.png)
Introw partner lead form for HubSpot

FYI: Introw is a PRM (partner relationship management) that deeply integrates with HubSpot. Allowing partners to register deals, collaborate on deals (and any other HubSpot objects), access documents and more. All without needing to give HubSpot access to your partners.
