# Trying to create a blocking action

Hey!

I’m trying to create a custom coded workflow action, and have been trying to follow along [here](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/automation/custom-workflow-actions)  
I’ve been trying to specify the hs\_execution\_state to BLOCK in the code editor, but it doesn’t seem to work. It always outputs SUCCESS. Any ideas?

Hi @cdeppert ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! To confirm, are you seeing any errors when trying to specify the hs\_execution\_state?

I would love to hear from @PBaxter and @miljkovicmisa - any ideas on how to successfully display the hs\_execution\_state to Block instead of Success?

i’m not seeing any errors, but I always receive `hs_execution_state` = SUCCESS. If I specify `BLOCK`, i will end up seeing `hs_execution_state` twice in the outputFields. One key value pair with BLOCK and one key value pair with SUCCESS
