# Trigger Deal based workflows using timeline events

I’ve created a HubSpot app which posts events to deal/contact/company timeline.

I can use the event and it’s tokens in triggering contact based workflows, but the events are not available for company or deal based workflows.

Is is a platform restriction, or am I missing something? What are the workarounds if it’s a platform restriction.

I assume you are using the [workflows api](https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/workflows/workflows_overview) .

According to the docs, it is only available for contact-based workflows

@lynton , perhaps you have a workaround?

Yes this is a platform restriction. The best workaround is to use contact workflows that filter on the timeline events _and_ associated deal or company data. Usually this will accomplish what you need without a deal/company workflow. Another benefit is that some customers may not have the necessary HubSpot add-ons to create deal workflows. Hope this helps!
