Why cant we track or link emails to deals not just contacts?

Hi @DElliott,

Emails can be associated with deals. On a deal record, for example, you can use the icons in the top left corner to compose an email which will then be associated to the deal, see also here.

If you want to do this for emails which have already been sent and are logged to a contact record but not a deal, for example, you can establish this association manually: Associate activities with records

You can also see in the table here that emails will automatically log to deals, permitting that contact and deal are associated correctly.

Thanks for getting back to me Karsten,

I am trying to log emails to specific deals. At the moment when an email logs to a contact it logs in all of the deals that are with that contact. This makes it very hard to look for the email that is relevant to the selected deal. Our contacts often have lots of different deals at the same time. I cant seam to do this?

Can you please share how exactly you’re sending emails? (HubSpot App, HubSpot Sales extension for Gmail etc.?)

In Outlook.
I am logged into HubSpot and “track email” & “log email” are both ticked.

In the HubSpot Sales extension for Outlook, you can select which deals to log an email to, see the gif right below “Select the checkboxes next to the records to log the email to” here: Track and log emails with the HubSpot Sales Outlook desktop add-in

As far as I know, this can’t be done from Outlook.

Dear Karsten,

I suspect that there must be a bug or setting not apaprent in the documentation you shared for the Gmail → HubSpot integration.

I am trying to have my emails to and meetings with (through Google Calendar) HubSpot contacts to be also logged to the respective accounts and deals these contacts are associated with (always in a 1-1 relationship!).

While the logging of said elements to contacts and accounts works seamlessly, the logging to deals is a hit-and-miss. While the deals my contacts are associated with were being shown in the Gmail integration consistently at the beginning, now I cannot select the associated deals when I compose emails. When I receive emails from contacts, some are correctly linked to deals automatically, others are not.

Please help.

I found a bit of a personal work around.

I use Zapier and the Workflow automations a lot to create deals.

I created another proerty called “email” for Deals.

And I “copy over” the email from the contact when I created the Deal.

Definitely not the ideal approach, but it was the best I found find without HubSpot offering it :thinking:
