Tracking Inbound vs Outbound Leads and Opportunities by Inbound and Outbound Source

What ways have folks used to classify leads as Inbound or Outbound, and in turn, have you built any workflows to attribute deals to Inbound or Outbound activity? Is there a way to do this out of the box, or has anyone built anything that accomplishes this?

Hi @EMcGrath,

That depends a bit on which requirements exactly you have for lead attribution. Generally, HubSpot tracks source informations automatically in these properties: Understand Original and Latest traffic source properties

This lets you filter for marketing channels (paid social, organic social, email marketing etc) and distinguish whether a contact was generated through marketing or sales activity (offline sources).

This requires the tracking code to be installed and for website visitors to accept their cookies, so keep that in mind.

Sometimes it can be useful to create a copy of the “Original source” property, then use a workflow to (once) copy the value from the original property to the property copy. A user in the CRM could then change the value in the property copy without affecting what HubSpot tracked originally. This would have an aspect of manual attribution which can be useful if you have additional channels you want to track (e.g. events) and if you want to give sales reps the ability to manually select channels.

Best regards!
