When using the Gmail extension for HubSpot, the sidebar displays related records like contacts, companies, and deals. However, a key limitation is that you cannot edit those records directly within Gmail.
This creates unnecessary friction in the sales process.
How the HubSpot + Gmail Workflow Actually Works
- Open an email in Gmail
- View the HubSpot sidebar with related records
- Manually select “Deals” each time (it does not default)
- Click the deal link to open it in HubSpot
- Make your edits (notes, follow-ups, deal amount, etc.)
- Navigate back to Gmail
The Problem
Because HubSpot does not allow editing records directly in the Gmail sidebar, even small updates require switching between platforms. This constant back-and-forth slows down productivity and disrupts your workflow—especially when you’re handling a high volume of emails.
Why This Matters
For sales teams working primarily in Gmail, the inability to quickly update deals, add notes, or adjust follow-ups without leaving the inbox can significantly reduce efficiency.
