Sum of time spent in deal stage vs Deal Velocity

Hey all,

I was wondering what the difference is between the sum of ‘Time Spent in Deal Stage’ vs ‘Deal Velocity’.

The following is filtered screenshot of what I see as ‘time spent in deal stage’:

As you can see, the average is 283 days overall.

However, using the same filters, when I run the deal velocity report, I see the Closed Won deal velocity as 176 days:

Shouldnt those 2 figures be the same? I am using the same filters.

Appreciate your input! Thx!

Best,

N

Hello @NGhaffar, happy Monday!

I would like to add some top experts to this conversation @GrantCarlile @mike-ward @ChrisoKlepke any recommendations to @NGhaffar?

Thank you,

Pam

Hey @NGhaffar ,

it’s hard to tell just from these two screenshots. But even if the math would work, it’s under the assumption that every single deal in that timeframe went through all of these stages.

If that’s really the case, then someone smarter than me should tell us, if the sum of the averages of the stages should equal the total average. I doubt it, though.

But in the other scenario where a deal is skipping a stage, there is no value set to time in stage for that specific stage. Meaning, especially fast deals that are skipping stages, are not influencing the average from your first screenshot. But they would still count into the other one, of course.

Let me if that helps or maybe provide some further context.

Cheers,

Chriso
