I originally imported a set of contacts with no problem on an excel spreadsheet pulled from google contacts.
I am now trying to import addtitional contacts that have lived on a spreadsheet and I keep getting the message:

Something went wrong when processing your file.

Check your import file and make sure each column with data has a header.
There is no data in a column without a header.
Each header matches exactly what the property in HibSpot says
Every contact has an email address or website URL as a unique identifier
I have bolded the headers.

I have resaved so there is nothing but words/numbers in the file name.
I have no idea what else to do… Desperate for help!

Hi @PsychLeague,

This typically happens when there is a rogue cell somewhere to the right or bottom right. A single cell with a space character would suffice to throw this error.

Here are two things you can do to fix this:

  • Copy just the cell range that contains data to a new file. For example, you have data in A1:E100, copy just that range, paste it in a new file, import the new file. Any cells floating around would automatically be excluded by doing this.
  • Mark all columns to the right of your data and delete their content, even if they look empty, e.g. with data in A1:E100, mark columns F through Z and hit delete.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your response, but I did delete eons of columns and rows when
I first saw the info. I’ve now done it multiple times, and this version is
a copy of just these specific columns from another file.ill give it another
try, thanks!

Hi @PsychLeague ,
As you have tried all other things and everything seems to fine, issue might occur if the file has any merged cell any special character. Save the CSV file with UTF-8 encoding as it can help avoid issues with special characters.
Hope this helps!
Thanks

I feel your frustration! Been there with import errors. Double-check for hidden characters in your headers, even extra spaces. Sometimes they can mess things up. You can try copying your data into a new spreadsheet to see if that helps!

In the meantime, if you’re looking for ways of how to make money online while you troubleshoot, there are many options out there – from freelance writing to creating an online course.

@PsychLeague If you continue to have trouble, maybe try to upload your file into our app - MigrateMyCRM - to see if you run into the same issue? That could at least let you know if it’s a bug in HubSpot or an issue with the data.
Best of luck!
