As the email Smart rules do not currently allow to hide the default content if the user is not on the list, does anyone have any workaround for this?
I mean, we have several categories in our service portal and each would need its content and list in the newsletter. Each of the users can be part of any of the categories (list).
Now we’d need to create 10 smart content blocks and 10 CTA’s in the newsletter and that would mean some users would see 9 empty content blocks & CTAs.
Could you share your smart rules and how you set them up in the email?
With smart content in emails, the default is for those that don’t meet any of the list criteria.
The rest of the rules are applied in the order they are listed. In the example below I am using list which are based on a dropdown select, that means a contact can only ever be in one of the lists.
That way a contact will either see the default content, or any of the smart content based on their list membership. There would not be 4 empty content containers.
Thanks. We have 10 learning portal categories (e.g. IT, leadership, HR, sales, etc.), and users can have access to e.g. IT and HR categories. Another user might have access to Leadership and sales groups. So there are lots of variations on the topics we should send them news.
Is there any custom solution for this as the default smart rule cannot be hidden? Otherwise we’ll have empty content blocks in the newsletter if the user does not have the category in use (the user is not in the list).
Hi @Suvi,
I checked for you and at the moment, you need a default version for the smart rules.
For information, here is the article about this “Create and manage smart content rules”.
Thanks @franksteiner79 and @CFJ for your help!
I have found these similar ideas already submitted: “Smart rule for email content block” and “Hide empty modules for smart content in drag and drop editor”.
I’d recommend supporting the Idea with an upvote and explaining your use case in the comments.
Our product team uses that forum to collect ideas on how we can improve the product for our customers.

I also wanted to invite a couple of subject matter experts to this conversation @danmoyle, @louischausse and @Bryantworks, do you know of any workaround for this specific use case, please? If anybody else has anything to add and/or share, please feel free to join in the conversation
Thank you and have a lovely day!
Best,

Thanks for the tag @BérangèreL, but I don’t have any hack for this. I’d suggest the same Ideas to upvote. And @franksteiner79 has a good rundown of how it works.
The only thing I might suggest is that instead of 10 CTAs or smart content modules, is there a single CTA that goes to a landing page where they can choose the right button? And maybe you can use private content functionality in HubSpot to give access to certain pages from those buttons?
