I am trying to create a Smart/custom field that will count the number of sales emails opened by a contact. Then I want to add the field to the contact record.
Procedurally I am going to Settings > Properties > Create Property and in the prompt I am typing that I want to create a property that sums up the total amount of sales emails a contact has opened. Then I check the box that says “make this a smart property.” That should all work but i am getting the error below and I do not know how to fix it.
I have created a report that can count the numebr of sales emails opened but that doesn’t solve the problem of not being able to see the info on the individual contact record.

This is likely failing because sales email engagements aren’t stored as a contact or company information, it’s an engagement / activity. Smart properties don’t look at engagements as far as I can tell: Automatically populate records using smart properties
With smart properties you can focus on the data that is relevant to your business. You can select the data source to either be public information on the internet about the company or data from an existing company or contact property.
At this point, as far as I know, there is no reliable way to create a property that counts sales email opens. You could increase a number property by +1 whenever “Recent sales email open date” changes but it wouldn’t populate historically and I wouldn’t trust it for many opens in short time frames.
