You should be able to tag a certain contact (or multiple) as the POC/primary contacts for deals. Why?
When I prospect contacts, I sometimes add up to 15 contacts to a Company Record.
Yes, once I create a deal, I don’t have to include all of the 15 contacts…BUT if I don’t associate all 15 contacts with the deal, I run the risk of enrolling them in a sequence because the filter for “Associated Deals” won’t pick up on the fact that their contact is a part of a deal.
Then, if I add all 15 contacts to the Deal info, my coworkers won’t know who the POC is
I’d also use a primary deal contact for reporting purposes - initially to identify the source of deals, based on where it started, rather than a purchasing agent or another deal stakeholder.
In addition to the points above, it would be very helpful if marking a primary contact on a Company (or Deal) could float that contact up to the very top of the list of contacts associated, and if a more substantial visual indicator than just the ‘association label’ text was displayed.
Ran into something simliar and ended up using a combination of an Association label, a Custom Property and a Workflow to designate a Primary Contact on a Deal and have the Contact Record update a similarly named Custom Property for use in filetered views and reporting. Happy to share the solution if anyone could use it, LMK.
@THayes3 Running into this issue now and stumbled across this page.. wondering if you’re still able to share the solution you put in place to address this? Thank you!
Would be super valuable for us as well - we have automations that go out to Contacts in a Deal to ask for Clutch reviews or provide invitations to events - and it would be great to identify the primary point of contact/Decision Maker for workflows like these
@THayes3 - I would like to know how you set up identifying a primary contact on a deal. All the ideas I have rely on a sales person manually applying a tag - which is problematic. Does your solution include a field in the ‘create new deal’ form?
It would also be helpful if only the primary contact had its lifecycle stage updated to opportunity and/or customer versus all assocated contacts being updated to these LC stages.
