Set Email Recipients Based on Previous Email Campaign Recipient Results

Hi HubSpot Team,

Currently, when we set email recipients under Campaign’s Send or Schedule, our only way to do it is through lists. While it is simple, it isn’t the easiest way for email marketers to send targeted emails when we want to exclude recipients from an existing email campaign (opened, clicked).

For example, if I’m sending out a second email about a webinar/content offer to those who didn’t open the first email, I’ll have to create a list based on recipients who opened/clicked the first email campaign. Only then, can we use the list to exclude in the second email. That is SOOOO tedious!

In addition, this particular practice also means that we have to create a list just for one-time use. Very suboptimal. We will have to delete the list right after we use them. If not, the lists also mount up to the allowed number of lists on the platform.

If we could have the functionality to directly filter by the campaign recipient results (opened/clicked) without having to manually create a list, that would be super super helpful for our email promotional efforts. Please!

P.s. I used MailChipm and Zoho Campaigns before, and they have that function, which saved me so much brain processing power and energy.

I 100% agree with this shortcoming in Marketing Emails and was just about to post a similar Idea when I saw David’s. I can’t believe more email marketers are not demanding this improvement in basic functionality.

Everyone knows that targeted emails are the name of the game, so why make this process harder than it should be?

It is inefficient at best to not have the ability to schedule targeted “follow-up” emails in advance because you are unable to create the list of “non-openers” or “non-clickers” of a particular email until AFTER the initial email has been sent. So you’re basically bound to a bunch of day-of manual setup in order to send simple targeted emails based on a contact’s email engagement. Which is what I particularly enjoy doing on a Saturday…

David provided some additional suggestions in his post which are probably even better… but at the very least, please allow for a “Scheduled” email to be selected when creating a List, so that we can build a List ahead of time and schedule subsequent follow-up emails based on contact engagement or lack thereof -- ahead of time.

Thank you.

I’d very much like this functionality also.

I’d like to be able to define email recipients dynamically using the same filters available when creating an active list.
