In workflows you can now access object data via associations when for example you choose “copy property value” then you can choose “Edit available data”.
This allows me to access the data of an associated object.
However If I want to send a marketing email to the contact, using personalisation tokens, I can’t use that associated objects data
The marketing Email should have the same option to add additional data sources.

As far as I know you can select information from associated objects in an email via personalisation tokens when creating an automated email, see screenshot:
This also includes custom objects that you may have in your portal.
The important thing is to send these emails via the corresponding object workflow, e.g. if you want to send deal information to a contact this needs to be done via deal automation. Is that what you are referring to?

It has to be a contact based workflow
It’s triggered when the contact is associated to a cutom object (training event)
If it was triggered the other way around as an object based workflow, each time a new attendee is added to the training event the workflow would be triggered and send the email out to all the associated contacts everytime.
