Sending product release emails to non-marketing customer contacts

I’ve been through some of the hubspot documentation but still dont know how to go about this- I’m trying to send product release updates to customer contacts but not all of them are marketing contacts.

Do I manually set them as marketing contacts so they get the emails? I would think this goes against email opt-in best practices.

I’ve set up a subscription type for ‘Product Release emails’ but that seems to be only used for unsubscribes. Not sure how that plays a role in sending these types of emails

Hi @RalphM87,

Marketimg contact status is a billing feature, not a consent feature: Understand marketing contacts

HubSpot requires this status of a contact to receive any type of email. It’s not related to subscription types at all. So yes, any contact which you’re planning to email, you set them as a marketing contact.

The subscription type you choose for your emails determines who is excluded or included in a send. Contacts who opted out of a subscription type are automatically excluded from that send.

With the ‘Legal basis required’ checkbox enabled in the GDPR settings, contacts must be opted into the chosen subscription type to receive an email: Manage your contacts' messaging subscriptions

Best regards

Thank Karsten. So is there another type of HubSpot solution / product that allows non-marketing, non-promotional information to be sent to customers? e.g. product udpates.

Thanks in advance.

@aliciahannon yes, this would require the transactional (paid) add-on: How to Use Transactional Emails to Send Relationship-Based Emails in HubSpot

Brilliant, thank you for that sign-post, appreciate it!
