Schema Markup Implementation for Remote Software Companies: areaServed Strategy

I have a question about implementing Schema markup on our service pages. We are a remote software company that serves clients internationally.

My question is: Is it necessary to be granular and specify each country or region where we operate in the ‘areaServed’ property of the Schema? Or can we use a more general approach by simply indicating “international” without detailing specific countries or regions?

Additionally: How does this decision impact Local SEO and search rankings? Are there AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) implications I should consider?

I appreciate any experience or recommendations on this matter.

You don’t need to list every country in areaServed if you’re a remote, international business using a broad value like Worldwide or a high-level region is perfectly valid and usually cleaner. Being ultra-granular won’t improve rankings by itself and can actually add unnecessary complexity unless you have truly localized landing pages. For Local SEO, what matters more is your verified business location (e.g., Google Business Profile, NAP, local schema), not how many places you list in areaServed. From an AEO perspective, clarity and consistency help: a simple, unambiguous “we serve clients globally” is easier for search and answer engines to understand and summarize than a long list of countries.
