Require company properties to be filled out when a deal is closed?

Hello,

We sell software. The properties for license type and expiration date are company object properties. I use conditional properties for our sales pipelines requiring specific properties to be completed when the stage changes. Is it possible to require that company properties (license type and expiration date) be completed when the deal is moved to ‘closed won’ or must they be only deal properties?

Thank you!

Jenny

Hi @Jenny26 one way that you can control this at the deal level is to create a deal property with the “sync property” option. This would allow you to have the property copied from the company record to the deal record automatically.

If the company record for the property is blank, nothing would sync and the deal record would be blank for this property as well which would allow you to flag it as a required field and your team would have to then update the company property before the deal can be moved to closed won.

I highly recommend implementing this change with a clear process, so the team understands the change has to be made on the company record and not the deal record, but this is a great way to flag missing company data needed for your closed won deals.

Hi @Jenny26

+1 on @Jnix284 suggestion of working with sync properties, but according to this ideas post, it seems that these can’t be selected - might be worth just testing this.

Alternatively, feel free to comment and upvote this ideas post, which is asking for associated object properties to be available when building required deal stage fields.

@franksteiner79 thanks for calling that out, I forgot that the new sync properties couldn’t be used as a mandatory property (seems like a huge missed opportunity IMO).

That leaves @Lucila-Andimol’s suggestion to copy the value with a workflow, back to the old manual method of syncing properties or you could use Associ8 app to do this for you.

Thank you, again! Very helpful!

Thank you, Frank! I appreciate that you mentioned the issue with sync properties. You saved me some time!

thank you for your help!

I especially appreciate your recommendation on having a clear process in place! That’s a constant struggle.

you’re welcome @Jenny26 documenting the process and having a change management plan is a great way to ensure your team is successful with these types of updates.

The CRM card is a great way to go, would love to see it once you have it built (with sensitive info removed) - there are so many great use cases for CRM cards and it’s always nice to see what others are doing.

Hi @Jenny26

so yes, deal required properties are only property deals for the moment.

But here are some options:

- Have a workflow copy values from Deal to company

- Have sync properties as Jennifer mentioned

- Have a custom card in the deal so that they complete this info from the deal directly into Company properties (wont be requiered as the property deal but could be helpful to have it visually displyed inside the deal to complete).

hope this helps

Thank you for your help! I think we’ll go with the custom card option.

We’ve been using a wf to copy values but it leads to some incorrect data when there is more than one deal per company.
