We are building a public app for the HubSpot App Marketplace on the new developer platform (platform version 2026.09, OAuth, marketplace distribution).
Our app needs to react to changes in custom deal properties that each customer chooses at runtime. Since those property names are different in every portal, they can’t be declared in the app’s static webhook configuration, so the per-portal subscriptions of the Webhooks Journal API look like the right fit.
However, when we request a client credentials token (POST /oauth/2026-09/token with grant_type=client_credentials and the scopes developer.webhooks_journal.read, developer.webhooks_journal.subscriptions.read and developer.webhooks_journal.subscriptions.write), we get:
400 BAD_CLIENT_ID – “missing or unknown client id”
The same client ID works fine for the authorization code and refresh token flows, so it looks like the client credentials grant / Journal API isn’t enabled for our app. We couldn’t find this beta in Product Updates either.
Could someone from HubSpot confirm whether the Webhooks Journal is still in a closed beta, and how a marketplace app can request access? We’re happy to share our account and app IDs privately and to give feedback during the beta.
I’ve combed through the Webhooks journal and management APIs (BETA) doc, and I’m not seeing any mention of a process for marketplace apps to request this beta access. I’ve inquired with our internal team, and I will report back accordingly!
Update: we got it working. The client credentials token and Journal subscriptions work with our main app; the earlier error seems specific to a test app we created. Thanks for checking!
The team has confirmed that no access request is needed — the Webhooks Journal and Management APIs are fully GA (released March 30, 2026 under the date-based version 2026-03), not a closed beta. Marketplace apps can use them today; no gating or opt-in required.
They did note that the mention of “Beta” in the title of the doc is misleading, so we’re working to remove that. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention!
In short, you can start immediately using the GA 2026-03 endpoints with the developer.webhooks_journal.* OAuth scopes; nothing to request from us at HubSpot.
