We are attempting to create a referral program where members complete a form with a friend’s contact information to offer a free month’s services.

Ideally, this would create a new marketing contact for the new email, and then trigger two different emails:

1. Email 1 - a thank you letter to the current member (i.e. existing contact) with personalized details including the name of the person they referred
2. Email 2 - a welcome email to the referred person (i.e. NEW contact) notifying them that their friend has referred them for our services. This would also include the name of the person that referred them.

I can’t seem to find any logic in the forms that would allow a referral relationship that would support this, but I’m sure I’m missing something.

Is there a way to make one contact an automatic property of another contact and vice versa within the submission of a single form?

Hi [@clint\_powell](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/503020)

The way we approached it, with one of our clients, was to create a Referral Code that could be entered into the form (or automatically from a link and/or QR Code). And, we had a Laning Page that prefilled with the Referrer’s name and details e.g. “Clint Powell recommended you try…”. The Referral Code was automatically populated into a hidden field in the form. So when the new person signed up we knew who referred them.

Would you like to jump on Zoom to map out your plan to see how it could be done?

There may be a way to do it without custom code.

Cheers

Mike

Hi [@clint\_powell](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/503020),

I realize it’s about a year and a half late but wanted to post here in case it’s helpful to you or anyone else that stumbles across this post.

I put together my introduction/referral programs and recorded a couple videos. The key piece is to use association labels to then leverage throughout HubSpot for email sends, lists, etc. I used Zapier for the email sends, mainly to the referrer but the referee could be sent an email too.

[The first video](http://www.whimpact.co/wh1nsights/how-i-created-a-referral-and-reward-program-using-hubspot-basecamp-tremendous-and-zapier) shows more of a demo from the referrers perspective.

[The second video](http://www.whimpact.co/wh1nsights/how-i-created-my-referral-and-reward-program-with-hubspot-basecamp-tremendous-and-zapier) is an in-depth behind the scenes of how it’s built.

Feel free to speed up the videos. If you have any follow-up questions, please reply here or via my email at the bottom of my website.

All the Best,
