Pull Contact list from a Marketing Email insights

Hello all,

Under the “Performance” tab under each Marketing Email, there is one module called “Top engaged contacts”, where you can filter by “Opens” and “Clicks”. Is there a way to extract the contacts there into a list? I dont see a Menu option or any button of the sort within the Marketing Email page. Maybe there is no direct way of showcasing these contacts in a list, but maybe we can pull them through other means?

Appreciate any advice!

Hi @galvanA81,

Unfortunately no, this is not possible. There isn’t any connection between that table and the list tool. While you can filter for number of marketing emails opened or clicked, in the list tool you can’t get to the level of how many times a specific email was opened or clicked, as far as I know.

Other users have requested this before: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Report-for-Top-Engaged-Contacts/idi-p/735183

These requests submitted to the HubSpot Ideas section of the community are reviewed by the HubSpot product team, based on their popularity and the assumed demand. I’d recommend commenting and upvoting.

You can also help other HubSpot users find this request more easily (and drive traction) by accepting my reply as a solution. I’d appreciate it, too.

Overall, my recommendation would be to not overemphasize email opens (which make the basis of that table). People open emails various times unconsciously, while sorting their inbox. Also, HubSpot cannot exclude all bot opens with 100% confidence. Also, forwarded emails might skew those numbers. Personally, I do not rely on opens much anymore.

Have a great day!

Hi @galvanA81 ,
As @karstenkoehler mentioned, currently, HubSpot does not provide a direct export or menu button within the “Top engaged contacts” module under the Performance tab to download these contacts as a list. But don’t worry, there are a couple of effective workarounds to get that data:

a. Export from the Recipients tab

  1. Open your Marketing Email in HubSpot.

  2. Click the Recipients tab (next to the Performance tab).

  3. Use the filters on the left to select Opened, Clicked, or other engagement types.

  4. In the top-right corner, click List actions > Export recipients list.

  5. Choose Basic or Advanced Export:

    • Basic = email only
    • Advanced = lets you include other contact properties (e.g., name, company)

This will download a CSV or Excel file with the contacts you’re looking for.

b. Create a filtered list (Active) and export

  • In the Lists tool, create a new Active list.
  • Use filters: “Marketing email open date is known”, “Marketing email clicked date is known”, or filter by specific email name.
  • Save the list.
  • Export the list to CSV/XLS, which can include additional contact fields as you need (name, company, phone, etc.)

If this is something you’d love to see as a built-in feature, consider upvoting this idea post on the HubSpot Ideas forum: - https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Report-for-Top-Engaged-Contacts/idi-p/735183

The more upvotes it gets, the more likely HubSpot’s product team will prioritize it!

Hope this helps!

Please keep in mind that there is no connection between the “Top engaged contacts” table referred to in the initial question and the lists that can be created in the Recipients tab. These list filter for contacts who have had at least a single engagement with that email (open, click etc) but is not filtering or sorting by “Top engaged contacts”.
