I am developing a public application for HubSpot, within which I plan to register a custom workflow action. However, I encountered a problem during the integration: the API for registering custom actions ([https://api.hubapi.com/automation/v4/actions/definitions](https://api.hubapi.com/automation/v4/actions/definitions)) requires the use of a developer API key (via the hapikey parameter) and a valid appId.

The problem is that we use OAuth (or Private App Access Token) for public applications, and new accounts do not support generating API keys. When trying to send a request with an OAuth access token, I get an error:

This limitation does not allow me to register a custom action for a public application that will be used by different users.

Can you please clarify whether OAuth support is planned for this API in the future, or is there an alternative way to register custom workflow actions for public applications without using legacy API keys?

Hi @DMelon! Welcome to the Community-- happy to have you here 😊

API keys, [were depreciated in November 2022](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/integrations/how-do-i-get-my-hubspot-api-key?_gl=1*n674t6*_ga*MTQ0NzQ0MjQxNS4xNzEwMzYzNzc0*_ga_LXTM6CQ0XK*MTcxMzU0NjAxMi4xMTUuMS4xNzEzNTQ2MDIxLjUxLjAuMA..#:~:text=as%20of%20November%2030%2C%202022%2C%20HubSpot%20API%20Keys%20are%20being%20deprecated). For Private Apps, you can [use this guide to create one](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/private-apps?_gl=1*1a4amky*_ga*MTAyNTk4Mjk3MC4xNzQwNDM1MzI3*_ga_LXTM6CQ0XK*MTc0MDUwMjMwNS43LjEuMTc0MDUwMzQ5OS44LjAuMA..#create-a-private-app), as there won’t be any by default in your portal. I want to invite some subject matter experts to see if they have any suggestions.

Hey **@GRajput** , @dsmarion do you have experience with the[custom workflow actions API](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/guides/api/automation/custom-workflow-actions)?

@DMelon If you go into your developer account you can find your developer key under the keys menu.
