Product property "Product Classification"

We use product variants and options extensively, HS has never had a clean way of handling these.. While digging into some new products I found a new product property called “Product Classification”

It lists the description as : The classification of product.Categorizes your product as either Standalone, Variant or Bundle.

I can’t modify it or adjust it manually.. but curious what this relates too. New feature? API only field.. anyone know..

Support wasn’t sure either.

Hey @Keegan4123,

Welcome back! :tada:
Thanks for details! This looks like a newer HubSpot-defined product property tied to product variants/bundles.

From what I can tell, Product Classification is used to categorize a product as Standalone, Variant, or Bundle, and it appears to be system-managed rather than manually editable. This would likely explain why its read-only!

I also couldn’t find a clear public Knowledge Base or developer doc for this specific property yet, so it may be newer functionality that isn’t fully documented publicly, but I’ll pass this along to our team for feedback!

Hope this helps!

Got excited when I saw it because variants by time of year is a major cornerstone of our business. But unfortunately it looks like its only tied to system integrations with shopify right now.. not reachable from the public API. so no use to us.

Hi @Keegan4123,

That’s likely tied to HubSpot’s newer native product variants/bundles work that’s been rolling out through 2026 (Commerce/Revenue Hub updates) “Product Classification” looks like an internal system field the platform now uses to distinguish standalone products, variants, and bundles as they build out real bundle support (rather than the workaround-only bundle approach that’s existed until now).

That would explain why it’s not editable in the UI and support wasn’t sure it’s most likely populated automatically by HubSpot based on how the product was created (e.g. via the new variant/bundle builder vs. a standard standalone product), not something meant to be set manually yet. If you need it changed, I’d push HubSpot support to escalate to product/engineering rather than standard support, since it sounds like this field is ahead of its documentation.
