Is it possible to control the number of characters that appear in the preview text and stop the email client from pulling in text from the main body of the email? I receive marketing emails from many companies that manage to do this.
Here are a couple of examples to illustrate what I mean:

Yes i have the same problem. That text that is covered by the purple line in the inbox should not be there. Its pulled up from the view in briwse piece and then the EDM main body. Its confusing for readers. Would be terrific to know how to push it off and out of the preview text.

I have exactly the same problem. It used to work fine for me the hack but recently, very recently, its just stopped working. Its quite annoying and certainly doesnt present well for email recipients. The traditional hack of placing a line of html code as a buffer between the first text box isnt working. Anybody have any answers why and how to fix would be super appreciated.
Yes, it’s definitely possible to control the preview text! In HubSpot, when you’re setting up your email, you’ll find an option to customize the preview text separately from the main email body. If you leave it blank, some email clients will automatically pull in random text from your email, which can look messy.
A simple trick (like the one mentioned in the Litmus guide) is to add invisible text or use non-breaking spaces after your custom preview text. This “pushes” the main body content down so it doesn’t show up in the preview. It’s a little hacky, but it works really well!
Since you’re new to HubSpot, don’t worry — HubSpot’s email editor actually makes it pretty easy to set the preview text without needing a lot of coding tricks. Just be sure to fill out that preview text field every time you create a new email!
I do think this is going to work - when I put 25 or so of these "\͏\\ " back to back and then hit save…they dissappear but in there place are a bunch of spaces. To then test - I delete the spaces and just hit the spacebar a bunch of times- when I hit save…those spaces are removed. Hard to test in HB with Outlooks as I get a disclaimer and don’t even see the preview text.
