I’d like it if we could set up a way to prevent two contact records from being merged. Sort of like you can’t merge two company records if one is a parent company of the other, there should be a similar type of way to say that two records may look the same, but they are different.
This would be awesome to prevent the potential tragedy of someone rapidly cleaning up the database by mad merging only to realise too late that there is more than one Joan Smith in the world.
This should also be part of a permission set or preset in HubSpot to prevent mergers: anyone can do these today.

I need a way to prevent merging contacts, deals, companies if a custom property of the primary record is null. Is ther a way to do that?

We should definitely be able to set conditions under which records cannot be merged. I know merging is now a permission, but that still doesn’t prevent people from merging incorrectly.
Example: record A has an external ID, record B has a different external ID. It should not be possible to merge these records because that would break integrations.
