Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing a persistent issue with the Google Contacts integration in HubSpot: phone numbers are not syncing, even though everything seems to be configured correctly.
Context
- I’m using automatic sync between Google Contacts and HubSpot.
- The sync is set to two-way, and the phone number field is checked in the sync settings.
- I selected a specific label in Google Contacts to filter the contacts being synced (not “All Contacts” or “Starred”).
- All the contacts added to this label have only one phone number, and it is correctly marked as “Mobile” in Google Contacts.
- The contacts do appear in HubSpot (name, email, etc.), but the phone numbers are missing.
What I’ve already tried
- Completely disabled the sync, then reconnected it using a different label.
- Manually added contacts one by one to the label, each with a Mobile number.
- Waited several hours after each update to allow time for syncing.
- Deleted a test contact in HubSpot and re-synced it from Google (still no phone number).
- Verified that all numbers are visible and properly labeled as “Mobile” in Google Contacts.
The issue
Phone numbers never appear in HubSpot, even though all other data syncs correctly and the sync settings look correct.
This is becoming a blocker for using the CRM effectively.
Questions
- Is there a known bug or limitation in syncing phone numbers from Google Contacts?
- Is there a way to force HubSpot to update the phone number field for already-synced contacts?
- Can I check sync logs or troubleshoot why a specific field is not syncing?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Hi @PaideiaNova and welcome, a pleasure to have you here!
Great question, thanks for asking the HubSpot Community!
I know that you mentioned that you only have 1 phone number but just to make sure, when checking at this article “Connect HubSpot and Google Contacts”, I can see that the phone number that is listed first in Google Contacts in the Phones property will map to the Phones property in HubSpot. Any additional phone numbers in Google Contacts will not sync unless they are labelled as Mobile or Fax, in which case they will sync with the Mobile Phone Number and Fax Number in HubSpot respectively.
And for reference, here is the integration documentation “Google Contacts” so that you can look at the “Shared data” and see which property from Google Contacts is syncing with HubSpot.
Is the phone number property a native property or a custom property?
I have found for you the solution from @SamCBarth_LAIRE on this post “Phone numbers not syncing with Google Contacts” which might help you.
I’d love to put you in touch with our Top Experts: Hi @danmoyle, @himanshurauthan and @fborgosano do you have any suggestions to help @PaideiaNova, please?
Have a lovely day and thanks so much for your help!

Hey there @PaideiaNova. While I haven’t personally run into this issue, I can see in some research that it’s not uncommon, due to strict mapping behavior and lack of transparent logs. It seems that most often, issues stem from label filters, field position, or labeling in Google Contacts. And unfortunately there’s no reliable way to force a field-by-field resync or to view detailed sync logs in native HubSpot-Google integration as of now. I did find some advice that third-party sync platforms can offer richer mapping and troubleshooting. If it were me, I’d try to call into HubSpot Support from your portal to screenshare and see if someone can walk through the settings with you to see if there’s something off.
Hi @PaideiaNova
This happens more often than you’d expect with Google Contacts. HubSpot’s native sync will only bring over the first phone number listed in the “Phones” property.
And it has to be mapped to one of the expected types (Mobile > HubSpot Mobile Phone Number, Fax > Fax Number, otherwise it falls back to the main Phone property). If the phone is in another slot (like “Work” or “Other”), HubSpot simply ignores it.
You can double-check the mapping rules here: Connect HubSpot and Google Contacts
Unfortunately there’s no button to force a field-by-field re-sync or view detailed sync logs the integration is intentionally lightweight. The only workaround inside HubSpot is to make sure the phone number you want is in the first slot in Google Contacts, and that it’s marked with one of the supported labels.
If you move it there, HubSpot should pick it up on the next sync cycle (though sometimes it takes a few hours).
Some teams that run into this limitation use a sync layer to catch all phone fields and keep them aligned in HubSpot. For example, Stacksync lets you enforce custom mappings and propagate changes in real time across both systems, so you don’t lose data just because it’s in the “wrong” label in Google.
Hope this helps.
