Hello!

Is there a way to remove the phone number format in bulk? I have added the +1 before I import the contact information but it is not registering it and I have had to go through every contact to add the United States code to each number. Without it, they won’t register as correct numbers that I can send marketing texts to.

Thank you,

Hi [@Shelby\_Both](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/809124),

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, I hope you are great 🙂

A phone number is considered valid if it starts with +1, and is a total of 11 digits, including the +1. For example, **+1-800-555-5555** is a valid US-based number, as documented [**here**](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/sms/create-and-send-sms-messages#:~:text=A%20phone%20number%20is%20considered%20valid%20if%20it%20starts%20with%20%2B1%2C%20and%20is%20a%20total%20of%2011%20digits%2C%20including%20the%20%2B1.%20For%20example%2C%20%2B1%2D800%2D555%2D5555%20is%20a%20valid%20US%2Dbased%20number.).

Right now there is not a built in way to format phone numbers in bulk or automatically. There are however some integrations that you can use to do the formatting such as this one:

[**https://ecosystem.hubspot.com/marketplace/apps/marketing/analytics-data/phone-number-formatter**](https://ecosystem.hubspot.com/marketplace/apps/marketing/analytics-data/phone-number-formatter? __hstc=75491725.2945bc48514310c6aa06023a564e97c9.1711396908874.1711910686244.1711980895703.25&__ hssc=75491725.7.1711980895703&__hsfp=2174296116)

To bulk update the phone numbers, we can follow these steps:

- Export your contact list from HubSpot with the existing phone numbers.
- In the exported spreadsheet, use a data cleaning tool or Excel functions to format the phone numbers correctly. This [**article**](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/import-and-export/set-up-your-import-file#:~:text=Phone%20number%3A%20the,like%20%2B11234567890%20ext123.) shows us how to format the phone numbers.
- Save the updated spreadsheet with the corrected phone numbers.
- Go to your HubSpot portal and navigate to Contacts \> Import.

I found his post: [**Custom Coded Workflow for Formatting Phone Number**](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/CMS-Development/Custom-Coded-Workflow-for-Formatting-Phone-Number/td-p/872708), they posted the code they are using and they had an error but seems to have been resolved. And this other Post in the search here: [**Format Phone Number**](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?advanced=false&allow_punctuation=false&q=Format%20Phone%20Number) where workarounds were shared by other users.

Hope that helps!

Diana

I believe that to do something liek this you would have to use Ops Hub or the API, but that may take some organizing of resources to make that happen.

Also wanted to mention (and full disclosure, I work for them) Insycle does bulk phone number formatting, and has templates for all of the popular phone formats. Then, you can build custom templates for handling advanced situations like formats in specific countries with country codes, extensions, etc. It may be worth checking out. [Here is an article](https://blog.insycle.com/standardize-phone-numbers-hubspot) that covers this feature to give you an idea of how it works.
