Parent companies collects data on child company

Hi there,

Can my parent company summarize specific data from its child companies?

I would like to see the below:

Parent Company:

- Total number of hotel rooms

- Total number of locations - could be a count or list them all

Child Companies:

- Number of rooms of that singel hotel

- Location

Also, do I understand it correctly that I cannot mark a company as parent but it will be done autimatically when I assign it child companies?

Thank you,
Anna

Hi @AvonKuhn. From what I can tell (I don’t use parent/child companies, and I haven’t had many clients do so either), there may be some limitation or what you’re asking.

Fior instance, there’s an idea submitted here that makes me think connecting activities doesn’t across parent/child companies doesn’t work well. (Note: I’d suggest upvoting it and commenting with your use case.)

However, I also found some helpful instructions by asking this in a generative AI tool:

Yes, in HubSpot, it is possible for parent companies to collect data on child companies by leveraging the HubSpot CRM’s hierarchical company structure. The hierarchical structure allows you to link child companies to their parent company within the CRM.

By setting up the relationship between parent and child companies, you can gain a consolidated view of data for reporting and analysis purposes. This includes the ability to view and track activities, deals, contacts, and other relevant data associated with both parent and child companies.

To set up the parent-child company relationship in HubSpot, you can follow these general steps:

  1. Create a company record for the parent company in HubSpot.
  2. Create company records for each child company, ensuring that you include a field to establish the relationship with the parent company. This could be a custom field or a built-in field like “Parent Company” or “Parent Company ID.”
  3. Link each child company record to its respective parent company by populating the appropriate field with the parent company’s ID or reference.
  4. Customize your reporting and views to include data from both parent and child companies as needed.

So I’d start with the yes and see if that helps.

As for your question on marking a company as parent only when you assign it child companies, yes I understand that to be the expected behaivor as well. There isn’t an association label “parent company” you could just designate. That would have to be a custom property or association, and it wouldn’t have the same functionality.
