Outlook has recently started automatically justifying text in the emails that we receive at our organization. This causes words along the right margin to break, instead of moving them to the next line. Users have a convoluted and not-easy-to-find way turn off this DEFAULT option, but at this time the sender/marketer has no way to stop it from happening. MS calls this feature “Advanced Typography.”

I recently found this article which gives me the impression that Hubpsot could potentially add code to the email templates which would prevent this from happening:

\<!--[if gte mso 9]\>\<xml\>

\<w:WordDocument\>

\<w:DontUseAdvancedTypographyReadingMail/\>

\</w:WordDocument\>

\</xml\>\<![endif]--\>

To work, this also requires the following xmlns (XML namespace) attribute on the HTML tag:

\<html xmlns:w=“urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word”\>

Hi @Assoc-Sacto! Typically, you can add formatting to an email, though it does not guarantee that the recipient mail provider will support that exact formatting. HubSpot has an explanatory article on this topic: [Custom coded marketing emails look different in Outlook](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/marketing-email/emails-look-different-in-outlook)

I would still like to invite another community member to the thread to see if we can get some more ideas. Hey [@Jake\_Lett](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/72866) - any best practices for formatting outlook emails?

_Best,_

Kennedy

@kennedyp Unfortunately, formatting will not fix the issue this person is describing. It’s a new software update to Outlook Classic set as _default_ that completely overrides all formatting and is getting a lot of backlash because of it.

As @Assoc-Sacto stated the only known resolution from the sender side is to add specific markup to the \<head\> of the email to disable the functionality which cannot be done in HubSpot’s editor since HubSpot does not give us access to the \<head\>.

Thanks so much for that context @alyssamwilie! This sounds like a great opportunity to create a post on our [Ideas Forum here](https://hubs.la/Q02cNT9y0). I’d be happy as well to bring this up internally to be sure it is on the team’s radar.
