Our industry is not in the standard list, can we add it?

Hi everyone,

We’re in the process of setting up our company details in HubSpot, but we’ve run into an issue: our specific industry isn’t listed in HubSpot’s standard industry dropdown. None of the existing options accurately reflect what we do.

So we’re wondering:

  • Is it possible to add a custom industry to the standard list?
  • Or is there a recommended workaround to make sure we can still segment and report accurately?

Any tips or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @JvanderWel,

Are you specifically referring to “Industry” under Settings > Account Defaults? If so, I’m seeing the option “Other” in the dropdown which would be a good catch-all if your specific industry isn’t listed. You can’t adjust this dropdown, no, but it also has no major relevance for using the tool, except for marketing email benchmarks for example.

If you’re referring to the company property “Industry”, then yes, you can adjust it by following these steps: Create and edit properties

Yes, we’re specifically referring to this setting in the context of benchmarking our email marketing performance. In that sense, the selected industry does have relevance, as it influences the benchmark data we’re compared against. That’s why we’d like to update the industry to better reflect our actual sector.

Is there a way we could still change this, or have it temporarily adjusted for benchmarking purposes?
